Netflix has come good on its promise of making deeper inroads into Central and Eastern Europe. The streaming giant has unveiled a massive new slate of Netflix original titles from Poland. The just-announced slate consists of 18 Polish titles – 9 movies and 9 series.
The move comes in the wake of Netflix‘s bid to expand its heft to hitherto virgin territory as far as streaming content goes. Netflix had earlier announced its intention of opening a new office in Poland that would be a hub for its original productions in East and Central Europe. Netflix is said to have invested close to 490m Polish Zloty (PLN) ($115m) to commission its new slate of originals from Poland.
Netflix has been betting big on European content in recent times. From French and German slates, the streamer now wants to grab pole position in Eastern European countries such as Poland. Dedicated Netflix followers will know that the streamer had a monstrous hit in its earlier Polish acquisition – the superhit Polish film, ‘365 Days’. Netflix has commissioned two sequels to the erotic hit, the first of which, ‘365 Days: This Day’ premieres on the platform later this month, on April 27.
