The highly anticipated animated web series ‘Eden’ dropped a brilliant, yet terrifying trailer today, on Netflix’s official YouTube channel. We have been waiting for this web series since the beginning of this year and we expect this recently released promotional video to be the final one before the animated series comes out by the end of this month. Check out the two and quarter minute video at the end of this article.
Brilliant, yet terrifying were words used to describe the trailer. And it is. To give the words some context, we need to understand the story behind this upcoming animated series. The story for ‘Eden’ is set thousands of years into the future, in a city called Eden. This city is inhabited completely by artificial intelligence robots with their creators, human beings, having not been around for almost a millennium. When two maintenance robots awake a human baby girl out of her stasis sleep, these two robots realize that human beings are in fact, not just forbidden ancient myth. They raise the baby together, outside of the city of Eden.
We know about all of this and have so for a while now. In this new trailer, the baby has grown up into an independent young woman. On her journey away from her robot parents, she discovers an AI, who tells her that she is the last hope for all humanity. When she goes through the database provided by the AI and the words mentioned finally registers in her mind, she understands that she is not the last human being.
And here comes the terrifying part. We find out, midway through the trailer that the young woman has an existential crisis. Growing up, not understanding the horrors that humans committed before her – she becomes horrified by the atrocities committed by her species and she seriously starts to second guess if saving humanity is actually the right choice to be made here. This part is rushed in the trailer, but we expect the animated series to dwell on that bit for a while so that we will get to see the proper build-up and it is a very sobering dilemma indeed. As for the rest of the trailer, we get a look at the antagonist which is another robot, who doesn’t want the human to live, as it brings into doubt what all the current robots come to believe. The visuals are also quite brilliant.
The animated web series ‘Eden‘ will premiere on Netflix on May 27th 2021.
