The upcoming Zoya Akhtar directional has drawn a lot of attention from the Bollywood industry and Indian OTT viewers since its announcement. Some people have supported the film because of their immense love for Archie Comics. On the other hand, the project has also managed to draw severe backlash for numerous reasons. People have criticised the makers for choosing an American comic to adapt instead of an Indian one. Additionally, people are targeting the film’s cast and its overall “Western culture” vibe.
Netflix India has also released new footage featuring an intriguing conversation between Zoya Akhtar and Jon Goldwater, CEO of Archie Comics.
This is what Akhtar said in the video about her forthcoming directional, “I have to say it is such a pleasure and an absolute honour, to be asked to make the Indian adaptation for this very iconic comic. It’s a huge part of my childhood. I’ve grown up reading it and it’s very exciting to be able to take the characters and introduce them to a new generation and at the same time keep that nostalgia, and the essence of the comic alive for people like me, that grew upon it.”
The helmer recently announced that she has wrapped up the film’s shoot. The project may arrive at the end of 2022 or next year on Netflix.
Helmed by Zoya Akhtar, The Archies stars Suhana Khan, Vedang Raina, Khushi Kapoor, Mihir Ahuja, Agatsya Nanda, and Yuvraj Menda. Apart from her directional duties, Akhtar has written the film’s script with Ayesha DeVitre and Jon Goldwater. Stay tuned for more updates.
