Indian content studio Jio Studios revealed a slate of over a hundred films and series at a star-studded event in Mumbai yesterday. Besides some big-ticket and popular titles like SRK and Rajkumar Hirani’s ‘Dunki’, Bhediya and Stree sequels, and Shahid Kapoor starrer ‘Bloody Daddy’, one upcoming Hindi film was rather overlooked by netizens and most film enthusiasts.
We are talking about the Hindi language remake of the critically acclaimed Malayalam film ‘The Great Indian Kitchen’. And it looks like the eagerly anticipated Hindi version of the movie has now officially got its title. From Jio Studios’ slate reel, it looks like ‘The Great Indian Kitchen’ Hindi remake has interestingly been titled as just ‘Mrs.’.
Helmed by Joe Baby, the parent 2021 Malayalam film ‘The Great Indian Kitchen’ revolves around a newly married housewife (played by Nimisha Sajayan) and how she tries to cope and struggles in her husband’s (Suraj Venjaramood) home which suffers from a traditional mindset. The must-watch movie is streaming on the Amazon Prime Video OTT platform.
Earlier this year, a Tamil language remake of ‘The Great Indian Kitchen’ was released in theatres. Like the parent film, the Tamil remake too garnered positive feedback from the audiences and critics. The movie features Aishwarya Rajesh and Rahul Ravindran in the lead roles and it has been directed by R. Kannan. The film later made its OTT premiere on Zee5.
Coming back to the Hindi remake of ‘The Great Indian Kitchen’ titled ‘Mrs.’ starring Sanya Malhotra, it would now be interesting to see whether it will be able to recreate the same magic as the parent Malayalam movie. The Hindi version has been directed by Arati Kadav (Director – Cargo). The exact release details for ‘Mrs.’ are yet to be announced by the makers. Stay tuned to Binged for the latest updates on that.
