‘Riverdale’ comes to India! In a new venture featuring the next-gen star kids, ace director Zoya Akhtar will be helming an Indian adaptation of the hit ‘Archie’ comics and the lead cast has just been finalized. This new Netflix original film will feature Amitabh Bachchan‘s grandson and Shweta Nanda’s son, Agastya Nanda, Shah Rukh Khan‘s daughter Suhana Khan and Boney Kapoor and Sridevi‘s second daughter, Khushi Kapoor. This seems to be a new, bold and interesting move for the young stars, ready to make their debut.
As of now, plans suggest that the film will go on floors this year itself and will feature Agastya as Archie, Suhana as Betty and Khushi as Veronica. The rest of the cast members haven’t been finalized as yet. Apparently, Zoya had been wanting to make an ‘Archie’ adaptation for a while now and Suhana was the first one to be cast for it. For the male lead, speculations were rife that Saif Ali Khan’s son Ibrahim was to play the lead, but Agastya has beat him to it!
Suhana has already dipped her feet in acting having starred in the ‘Romeo & Juliet’ play in London, as well as the 10-minute short film, ‘The Grey Part of Blue’ directed by Theodore Gimeno. Meanwhile, 20-year old Khushi was being made to wait for the perfect debut, since elder sister Janhvi was just establishing herself. As for Agastya, he too was on the lookout for the perfect foothold into Bollywood and the digital medium seems to be the best way now to test the waters and make a mark amongst youngsters.
Having said that, since there are so many youngsters around, would it be a better move to make this a series instead of a film? It would instantly be a hit among millennials and turn out to be a good move to stretch their initial stardom for a few years. With the digital space increasingly becoming more popular these days especially with the younger crowd, this contrary move to enter showbiz might be regarded as bold and intelligent, in comparison to the conventional big-screen format. With so much uncertainty surrounding the theatrical medium, foraying via the digital space will give these youngsters the necessary attention and a chance to prove themselves without the fear of getting the ‘flop’ tag so early on in their careers. So here’s wishing these next-gen stars all the very best. We can’t wait for further updates!
