Ever since corona-virus had hit the entire planet, a lot of businesses had to be either furloughed or closed due to the lack of demand for a lot of products and services. The entertainment heavyweights like Amazon, Disney and Netflix have held on well in this regard and continued with releasing content on their streaming platforms without much issues.
Now that the pandemic is dying down and it is safe to work again, a lot of the shows and movies which were left at the the pre-production stage or at the shooting phase are ready to start shooting (again). But due to the increasing of budget required due to the addition of coronavirus precaution gear and safety standards, some projects don’t have the money to continue. And this being a significant reason, Netflix has decided to reverse it’s decision to renew The Society for a second season and has also decided against the making of a second season for the comic book adaptation I Am Not Okay With This.
Netflix executives were pleased with the shows reception and were more than willing to create a second season for both the shows. But with the uncertainty of production dates, the balancing requirements of a large cast (in the case of The Society) and the previously mentioned Covid-19 concerns, they had no other option but to pull the plug.
The Society, which stars Kathryn Newton, Kristine Froseth, Jack Mulhern, Alex Fitzalan, Sean Berdy among many others, is a modern take on the classic ‘Lord of the Flies’. It follows a group of teenagers who are trying to build a version of a society to survive; when they find out that their parents, and all adult figures in their town, have disappeared.
Based on the Charles Forsman graphic novel of the same name, I Am Not Okay With This, is about a 17-year-old girl, portrayed by Sophia Lillis, who is navigating through the trials of highschool, a tragedy in her family, her sexuality,…..and oh! her superpowers.
