Trailer Talk: Paatal Lok Is Poised to Be India’s Most Violent Series Yet

By Rashmi Paharia - May 05, 2020 @ 02:05 am

Paatal Lok Web Series Is Poised to Be India Most Violent

Amazon Prime Video deployed a novel way to introduce the trailer of its upcoming Indian Original series, Paatal Lok. It premiered the trailer one day before the declared date of release for the trailer, and at exactly 11:34 pm. The time, when looked at upside down in digital numerics looks like HELL – the English word for Paatal Lok.

So yes, the trailer is out earlier than expected, but is available only on the official website launched for the series, paatallok.in. You won’t find it if you go looking for it on YouTube. But then you have Binged.com to the rescue. Check out the trailer of Paatal Lok at the bottom of this page. But beware, it is not for the faint of heart.

The 3-minutes-plus trailer brims with gory images — of gangsters killing with impunity, of knives, choppers and axes being slashed to murder in every second scene, of abject bloodshed, of murder suspects being subjected to third degree torture in jails — it gets to the point that you fervently wish for a switch with which you can simply shut off the violence and let peace prevail.

A jaded police officer (Jaideep Ahlawat) is assigned to crack the assassination attempt on a well-known journalist (Neeraj Kabi). He rounds up four suspects, one of whom is a woman, and one of whom is a hard-core criminal (Abhishek Banerjee). The case turns his life upside down and leads to a face off between him and the world inhabited by ruthless, blood-thirsty criminals – the Paatal Lok, as it is termed in the series. Jaideep Ahlawat radiates angst and intensity, delivering his dialogues with assured polish. And Abhishek Banerjee is positively incendiary – he burns up the screen in every frame he features in.

The premise can be described in a one-liner — jaded cop with a case to crack and a point to prove pursues hardened criminals to the back of beyond. And yet, it will never prepare you for the mayhem, bloodshed and gore you are about to witness in the trailer – and obviously, in the series, when it drops on Amazon Prime Video on 15th May.

Paatal Lok is produced by Anushka Sharma‘s production house, Clean Slate Filmz for Amazon Prime Video, created by Sudip Sharma and directed by Hardik Mehta. Besides the aforementioned, it also stars Gul Panag in a crucial role.
