The highly anticipated movie of the veteran director Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan part-one finally set to release in theaters on September 30 2022. It was confirmed on the firstlook poster in twitter and they also dropped the character posters of the lead casts. The movie ensambles a group star studded highly talented artists consists of Vikram, Aishwarya Rai, Jayam Ravi, Trisha, Karthi, Sobhita Dhulipala, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Vikram Prabhu and Ashwin Kakumanu while R. Sarathkumar, R. Parthiban, Prabhu, Prakash Raj and Rahman appear in supporting roles.
This movie is bankrolled by the Lyca productions, and the movie has a budget of huge 500 crores making it as the second most expensive film made in India till date. The music is done by the legendary A R Rahman who always shows up with Mani Ratnam as music director in his movies.
‘Ponniyin Selvan’ is an adaptation of a novel by the same name by Tamil writer Kalaki Krisnamurthi. It is a historical fiction which depicts the story of Arulmozhivarman (later crowned as Rajaraja Chola I), one of the kings of the Chola Dynasty during the 10th and 11th centuries. The book is written in five parts and the movie is also anticipated with multiple parts and remains as a long running project.
In 1950 M G Ramachandran planned to adapt this story into the screen which was dropped later. And it was revealed as the dream project of Mani Ratnam when he shared his desire in the film fare awards of 1994. It was in the 2019 he resurrected his dream project with Lyca productions. And now his movie is set to release in 2022 and the fans are eagerly waiting for this cinematic masterpiece.
