Prasar Bharati has finally launched the OTT app that was long due in discussion. The app meant for a specific kind of mass is called “Waves”. Quite obviously, it has a treasure of Doordarshan content and the overall app is quite strange.
But, we will come to all that. The first thing we need to look at is the pricing. You see, most of the app is free. Yes, there are ads and you can’t stream beyond 480p.
But, most of it is free.
On the other hand, if you see the case of some content that Prasar Bharati assumes to be premium then you have to purchase it.
Actually you see, the overall cost of Waves is significantly more than Prime Lite.

The platinum plan costs ₹999/year which is significantly more than what we expected.
The annual plan of SonyLIV and Prime Video starts at ₹699/year.
The Disney+Hotstar plan starts at ₹499/year only, while Waves will cost ₹350/year.
The pricing is not too expensive. But, is it value for money?
After all, Waves is not gonna provide us with any quirky original. So, will people be willing to spend their money on this app?
We strongly think that this pricing is insane and Prasar Bharati is not going to benefit from this. At max it is going to be a free app and if Prasar Bharati really wants to gain subscribers then they need to reconsider their pricing.
