Amazon Prime Video‘s ongoing expansion efforts all around the world, including the Southeast Asia region, are attracting many people’s attention. The streaming platform plans to deliver more local-language content to viewers in the region, as part of its expansion efforts. The platform’s Vice President, Gaurav Gandhi, revealed this at the APOS conference today.
Before gaining control of the APAC region, Gandhi used to head Prime Video India. Along with local content, more channels and TVOD will be incorporated into the platform’s offerings in the Southeast Asia region.
“We’ve always said we’re not just about the core SVOD service, but we’re also a content hub and marketplace with TVOD and channels,” said Gandhi. “We’re at different growth stages across the region – we’ve been investing in Japan and India for a while, and we’re now getting started with David’s team here in building out Southeast Asia.”
Prime Video now possesses a significant market share in the Indian OTT market, thanks to its focus on providing quality and local language content to the country’s viewers. Several breakout Hindi language shows, such as Inside Edge, Mirzapur, Made In Heaven, Breathe, Farzi, and more have performed exceptionally well in India.
As part of its expansion efforts, Prime Video will devote its focus to three main countries in the Southeast Asia region: Thailand, Indonesia, and the Philippines. Stay tuned for more updates.
