Prime Video is fast expanding its footprint in the Indian film industry. Not satisfied with merely streaming content, the streaming giant has gradually found its way into producing and distributing films in India. Akshay Kumar’s ‘Ram Setu’ was Prime Video India’s first theatrical production in the country. And now the streamer has announced its third theatrical production – a film with Dharma Productions and Vicky Kaushal in the lead. The new film will be the second theatrical production that Prime Video will co-produce with Dharma Productions, the first being ‘Yodha’.
The upcoming joint film venture of Dharma and Prime Video India is still untitled. Amritpal Singh Bindra and Anand Tiwari’s Leo Media Collective is the third partner in the co-production. Besides Vicky Kaushal, the untitled film will feature Tripti Dimri and Ammy Virk as his co-stars. Prime Video has also announced a theatrical release date for the film. It will hit theatres in India on July 28, 2023.
The upcoming film will be directed by Anand Tiwari, who’s earlier directed Vicky Kaushal in the Netflix original film, Love per Square Foot. He’s also directed the Prime Video film Maja Maa, and the series, Bandish Bandits. The as-yet-untitled film is produced by Hiroo Yash Johar, Karan Johar, Apoorva Mehta, Amritpal Singh Bindra and Anand Tiwari.
There’s no word on the genre or premise of the upcoming co-production, or the rest of the cast and crew. The only thing shared by the makers is that it will be a wholesome family entertainer.
