Another day, another Movie, another OTT release. For the last one year or so, it’s been the most popular trend in the film industry that a film is getting a direct OTT release for obvious reasons.
The pandemic has changed the course of the films in a drastic way and it looks like going forward, this is going to be the ‘go-to’ idea to release a film. Now, following the same OTT route, producer Ramesh Taurani’s upcoming much-talked-about horror comedy Bhoot Police will reportedly release directly on Disney+ Hotstar.
Multi-starrer Bhoot Police was announced in late November 2020 when Saif Ali Khan, Arjun Kapoor, Jacqueline Fernandez and Yami Gautam began the shooting in Himachal Pradesh for the film. Though they have completed the shooting of film in January 2021, they film is currently in post-production phase.
We are still awaiting the plot details of Bhoot Police but what we know is that Saif Ali Khan and Arjun Kapoor portray the roles of two ghost hunters who will embark on a dangerous yet funny adventure leading to uncovering extremely freaky secrets. This will be Arjun’s Kapoor’s second OTT feature release within a year after Sardar Ka Grandson.
Bhoot Police is directed by Pavan Kirpalani who earlier gained fame from Phobia and Ragini MMS. Akshay Puri along with Ramesh Taurani’s Tips Industries and 12 Street Entertainment will produce the project. The film will also mark the final appearance of late actor Amit Mistry, who recently passed away due to Covid-19 complications.
Official announcement is yet to come from Disney+ Hotstar as Bhoot Police was set for a theatre release on 10th September 2021, the chances are really less that it could make it to the theatres now due to the surge of pandemic in the country. But now-a-days, films such as Bhoot Police taking the OTT route is not surprising news anymore, but what remains to be seen is how long this OTT trend will go in the future. Is it here to stay and with things back to normalcy, people will eventually prefer to head towards the theatres? Only time will tell!
