The biggest YRF project, Samrat Prithviraj, is now playing in the theatres with Akshay Kumar donning the character of the great king of the Chauhan dynasty. The DD National Chanakya series fame, Chandraprakash Dwivedi, has served as the film’s helmer. And the rest of the cast includes Manushi Chhillar, Sonu Sood, Sanjay Dutt, Manav Vij, and many more performers. Despite the involvement of all these big names and Yash Raj Films, the film strictly functions as an average history lesson of ancient India. Critics have displayed mixed feelings towards the movie so far. But it seems like the majority of the audience has admired it. The latest Akshay Kumar starrer fails to deliver a mesmerising and memorable watching experience. Here’s why!
Lack of mindblowing fight sequences
Historical movies need breathtaking fight sequences to keep the viewers entertained. They can quickly turn into a monotonous watch if they are unable to bestow exhilarating action to the audience. A large portion of the critics has pointed out the lack of fighting and over-reliance on dialogues in the film. Plus, you have to suffer scenes with terrible CGI.
Sanyogita looks bland
Manushi Chillar’s Sanyogita is by far the worst on-screen princess in the history of Indian historical dramas. Her presence is not powerful enough to even care about her character in the film. In other words, her dull performance does not give the vibe of a powerful princess at all.
Akshay Kumar tries very hard to impress
There is no doubt that Akshay Kumar is one of the finest actors in Bollywood today. He has delivered numerous amazing performances in his long acting career. However, his performance as Samrat Prithviraj disappoints. An actor cannot impress the viewers just by screaming the dialogues. Yes, it is a historical drama and vigorous scenes are needed to uplift the spirits of the moviegoers. But the actor should have spent more time studying his character and finding the real essence of the mighty Chauhan king.
Ghori falls flat
Manav Vij as Muhammad Ghori is not interesting at all. His character badly needed a better characterisation than what the viewers got in the film. A movie never works out well if its baddie falls flat. And that’s exactly the case with Samrat Prithviraj. A more talented performer than Vij could have done complete justice to the role of Ghori. Also, Sonu Sood and Sanjay Dutt did just fine with what they had in the movie. Still, their respective characters were not engaging enough to improve our watching experience.
The movie looks good in parts
The opening sequence and the finale are well executed. Additionally, some scenes will definitely rife your veins with zeal. Although, you will also tackle those scenes which will just suck out all the excitement you have for the movie. The latest YRF historical project works in parts but not as a whole.
