After displaying her acting chops predominantly in Tamil and Telugu cinema, Regina Cassandra is grabbing every opportunity to shine in the Indian OTT market. Her first-ever acting project was V.Priya’s Kanda Naal Mudhal (2005). She played Laila’s on-screen sister in that one. Almost seven years later, the actress opened her account in Telugu cinema with Tatineni Satya’s Siva Manasulo Sruthi opposite Sudheer Babu.
Nikkhil Advani’s SonyLIV series, Rocket Boys, helped Cassandra in making a solid web debut at the start of this year. She portrayed the character of Mrinalini Sarabhai, Dr Vikram Sarabhai’s wife. Apart from the leading duo of Jim Sarbh and Ishwak Singh, the actress’ performance was among the show’s positive points. Additionally, she has done an outstanding job in her latest ZEE5 show, Fingertip Season 2. She plays a prominent film celebrity in the series who’s obsessed with the shape of her nose. However, too many subplots and almost 40-min long episodes may test your patience.
The legendary helmer of both Baahubali movies and RRR, SS Rajamouli, recently launched the trailer of Aha’s upcoming cyber horror project, Anya’s Tutorial. Regina Cassandra, along with Nivedhithaa Satish, leads this project of Arka Media Works. Additionally, she has completed her shoot for Amazon Prime Video’s forthcoming web series, Farzi, with Raj and DK at the helm. It seems like Cassandra is determined to make her name in the world of Indian OTT.
Cassandra replied on being asked about exploring the digital space in her interview with Free Press Journal in January this year, “I would love to. There are many opportunities now which weren’t five years ago. The characters you get in films are limited and only of a certain range.”
It proves that we are only witnessing the start of Regina Cassandra’s chapter in the streaming world. There is no denying that Indian OTT has rejuvenated the careers of many forgotten actresses like Sushmita Sen, Shefali Shah, Raveena Tandon, and many more. Also, it has bestowed some female performers like Geetanjali Kulkarni, Rasika Dugal, Radhika Apte, and others a golden chance to exhibit their talents outside the movies. These acting gems have left their mark in the hearts of their viewers through their mesmerising work. Will Regina Cassandra emerge as the next big sensation on Indian OTT? Given her current popularity in the Indian OTT market and exceptional acting skills, she should face no problem in doing the same with ease.
