Relive The Essence Of Mahatma Gandhi With These Must Watch Movies!

Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi or better known as Mahatma Gandhi has been the top pillar in the nation’s history of Independence from the Britishers. His ideologies of non violence, and preachings are still taught in every school. Today in his birth anniversary let’s talk about the lesser known films of Indian Cinema which captured the essence of Gandhi and showcased it beautifully, but still didn’t got the desired recognition.

1. Hamne Gandhi Ko Maar Diya

The 2018 feature film was directed by Naeem A. Siddiqui. The movie happens on a train journey where two passengers, strangers, with different ideologies about the partition and Gandhi collide. Over the duration of two days both of their thoughts clash frequently as both of them had different experiences during the partition. The movie eventually coincides there journey to the day where Mahatma Gandhi was assassinated.

2. Road To Sangam

The 2009 released movie starred Paresh Rawal, Late Shri Om Puri, and Pavan Malhotra in the lead. Road to Sangam follows a man named Hazmat who is entrusted to fix an old Ford lorry which once carried the ashes of Mahatma Gandhi when his ashes were emerged in Triveni. Now, a new development regarding one left urn carrying Mahatma Gandhi arises and the same vehicle is to be used and thus Hazmat is asked to fix it. In a parallel storyline due to recent attacks, the muslim community is facing heat and are continuously being put down. But after knowing the history behind the vehicle he faces a dilemma in his life which might change his way of thinking completely.

3. Gandhigiri

The 2016 film stars Late Om Puri whose character is of an NRI and he thoroughly believes in the ideologies and beliefs of Mahatma Gandhi. Upon reaching India, he meets four people who have made wrond choices in their life and are suffering now. The movie showcases brilliantly how Gandhi’s ideologies help a person in life, as Om Puri’s character tries his best to reform the four people. The movie also stars Sanjay Mishra.

4. Nannu Gandhi

The 2008 Kannada film was directed by N R Nanjunde Gowda. Nana Gandhi follows a bunch of kids who inspires everyone around them by following Gandhian principles and norms.

The 2019 Gujarati short film was directed by
Kanish Shah. The movie stars Kanish Shah and Rishi Joshi. The movie follows an interesting storyline where the AI version of Mahatma Gandhi is brought to 2019, where he talks about present day Bollywood, Politics, Social Media etc.
