The trailer for ‘Mookuthi Amman’ dropped last week and it has blown up all over India, especially in South India. With over 5 million views on the “Think Music Alone” YouTube channel alone, Tamil movie fans are eagerly waiting for Diwali for the film to drop on Disney+ Hotstar. The film was written and directed by Balaji Patturaj AKA RJ Balaji.
RJ Balaji started out his career in the entertainment field as a Radio Jockey (just as his name suggests). He worked for Radio Mirchi Coimbatore at one point before quitting and working at BIG FM 92.7, who gave him more freedom to perform as an RJ. He eventually transitioned to presentations, being a presenter for major award events while at the same time being a host at movie trailer events among others. At one point he worked as one of the Tamil Cricket Commentators for the Indian Premier League.
He eventually started working in films as his popularity increased, coming on as a narrator in the 2013 film ‘Puthugam’ while also doing a cameo in the film ‘Ethir Neechal’ in the same year. He then made a full-fledged appearance in the 2013 film ‘Theeya Velai Seiyyanum Kumaru’. He has gone on to star in multiple films and eventually portrayed the lead in the 2019 feature ‘LKG’, which became a surprise hit. ‘LKG’ was also written by him.
‘Mookuthi Amman’ will also see him portray the lead male character for the script he wrote, but this will be his first time directing. He is co-directing this feature with N. J. Saravanan. Balaji has become a household name, due to his brilliant scripts and portrayal of a variety of characters (similar to Mollywood’s veteran actor Sreenivasan) and we wish him the best in his latest co-direction venture. Hopefully one day, he will get to fully direct one of his own scripts (if he plans to do that).
‘Mookuthi Amman’ will premiere on Diwali on 14th November 2020, on Disney+Hotstar.
