RRR Bags Best Picture Runner-Up Award at HCA. Here’s the Winner

Just a few days back, we had made our readers aware that S.S. Rajamouli’s period actioner ‘RRR’ was nominated for the ‘Best Picture’ midseason award at the Hollywood Critics Association, a well-known LA-based film critic organization.

The nominees were those films which were released in the first half of 2022. And ‘RRR’ was competing with some big international movies namely Tom Cruise’s billion-dollar blockbuster ‘Top Gun: Maverick’, Robert Pattinson’s ‘The Batman’, multiverse actioner ‘Everything Everywhere All At Once’, Apple’s ‘Cha Cha Real Smooth’, Elvis Presley biopic ‘Elvis’, period film ‘The Northman’, action comedy ‘The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent’, comedy film ‘Marcel The Shell with Shoes On’, and Disney and Pixar’s animated movie ‘Turning Red’.

The winner for the top award ‘Best Picture’ category has been announced by HCA and it has been bagged by ‘Everything Everywhere All At Once’. While ‘RRR’ has been adjudged as the runner-up for the coveted ‘Best Picture’ category. And in doing that, ‘RRR’ has managed to beat its Hollywood counterparts like ‘Top Gun: Maverick’, ‘The Batman’, and ‘Elvis’, etc.

Besides getting the ‘Best Picture’ award, ‘Everything Everywhere All At Once’ has also won other important awards namely ‘Best Actress’ (Michelle Yeoh), ‘Best Supporting Actor’ (Ke Huy Quan), ‘Best Supporting Actress (Stephanie Hsu), ‘Best Director’ & ‘Best Screenplay’ (Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert), and ‘Best Indie Film’.

Moreover, the ‘Best Actor’ award has been bagged by Austin Butler for his titular performance in Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis Presley biopic movie ‘Elvis’. And the ‘Best Horror Film’ award has gone to Mimi Cave’s dark comedy thriller ‘Fresh’ starring Daisy Edgar-Jones and Sebastian Stan.

We had speculated in our previous article that although ‘RRR’ and ‘Top: Gun Maverick’ were the strongest contenders for the ‘Best Picture’ award at Hollywood Critics Association, ‘Everything Everywhere All At Once’ might spring a surprise like ‘CODA’ did last year. And it did exactly that. However, ‘RRR’ too has once again made India proud and has put the Indian film industry on the world cinema map.
