Back in October 2020, the makers of S.S. Rajamouli’s super eagerly anticipated magnum opus ‘RRR’ (Rise Roar Revolt) unveiled one of the film’s protagonists Komaram Bheem’s (played by Jr. NTR) character look. Although the teaser trailer became an instant hit amongst cinephiles but also caused controversy as the character was seen wearing a skull cap with kohled eyes, which is usually considered to be a Muslim person’s getup.
In a similar fashion, the character of Alluri Sitarama Raju (played by Ram Charan) donning a cop’s uniform also became a topic of heated discussions. And now, a few months ahead of the expected theatrical release of ‘RRR’, the film’s writer – K. V. Vijayendra Prasad, in an interview with Film Companion, has cleared the air about the controversy.
Regarding Komaram Bheem’s look, the veteran writer clarified that “I tell you what’s the reason behind. He is being haunted by the Nizam of Hyderabad. So, he is trying to escape the people of Nizam police. So, what is the best camouflage? Simple. He is playing a Muslim boy so that he won’t be cut.” Furthermore, in relation to Alluri Sitarama Raju cop look, the writer simply stated that “There is a story behind it, which will be pleasantly surprising.”
As per K. V. Vijayendra Prasad’s recent clarification regarding the much talked about character looks, the audience can only get more clarity when after the film’s release on October 13, 2021.
Some of you might still remember that similar discussions happened amongst some movie viewers after Rajkumar Santoshi’s acclaimed biographical period film namely ‘The Legend of Bhagat Singh’ starring Ajay Devgn released in the year 2002.
In a scene from the film’s first half, Ajay Devgn, who played the legendary freedom fighter Bhagat Singh in the film, disguised himself as an affluent nobleman with short hair. The character’s reason was almost the same as mentioned by K. V. Vijayendra Prasad’s reason for Komaram Bheem’s character look in ‘RRR’. Ajay Devgn’s titular character had changed his look to outsmart the authorities and in order to get past them.
‘RRR’ without a pinch of doubt tops the chart of being amongst the most anticipated and biggest films of the year. And cinema lovers have already started counting each day and are waiting with bated breath for the film’s expected release on October 13, 2021.
