The Pongal/ Sankranti 2022 festive season is being targeted as the next big auspicious date after Diwali with many high profile movies having already locked their film’s release dates and a few pulling out of the race too. The only Bollywood film in the race among other southern films was to be director Sanjay Leela Bhansali‘s much-awaited ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi‘, that was all set for a theatrical release on 6th January, clashing with the magnum opus ‘RRR’ releasing on the 7th. However, news came in earlier today that the Alia Bhatt starrer has been further delayed and the new official release date is 11th February 2022. A huge clash being averted, read on to know ‘RRR‘ director SS Rajamouli’s reaction!
Director Rajamouli took to social media earlier today and tweeted, “The decision by Mr. @JayantilalGada and Mr. #SanjayLeelaBhansali to move the release date is well appreciated. Our heartfelt wishes to #GangubaiKathiawadi..:)” ‘RRR’ is already seeing aggressive promotional campaigns and a clash with the movie didn’t seem a smart move right since the beginning. Interestingly, with Jayantilal Gada being the producer of both films, there was enough speculation that ‘RRR’ would be the film to get pushed, the other important point being that both actors Alia Bhatt and Ajay Devgn play an important role in the period action drama too, that features Ram Charan and Jr. NTR in the lead.
Produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Jayantilal Gada of PEN, the biographical crime drama ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ stars Alia Bhatt in the lead, with Ajay Devgn in a pivotal role. The biopic on Ganga Harjivandas, the famous Mafia Queen, also features Emraan Hashmi, Vijay Raaz, Indira Tiwari and Seema Pahwa in supporting roles. Its release delay however, comes after Mahesh Babu’s ‘Sarkaru Vaari Paata’s decision to postpone the release to April 1 and the Pawan Kalyan-Rana Daggubati starrer ‘Bheemla Naayak’ also heading towards the same fate, giving ‘RRR’ a much-coveted solo release.
The decision by Mr. @JayantilalGada and Mr. #SanjayLeelaBhansali to move the release date is well appreciated. Our heartfelt wishes to #GangubaiKathiawadi..:)
