RRR Gets ‘Must-See’ Metacritic Status Post Netflix OTT Release

S.S. Rajamouli’s period actioner ‘RRR’ has garnered an unprecedented response from audiences and critics across the globe since its theatrical release earlier this year and more particularly after the movie started streaming worldwide on the Netflix OTT platform. Moreover, ‘RRR’ has also become a strong contender for the upcoming Oscars.

Some time back, the action extravaganza had achieved the rare feat of acquiring the ‘Certified Fresh’ status from the globally renowned reviews aggregation portal Rotten Tomatoes. Moreover, the film holds an impressive user rating of 8/10 on IMDb. The film’s incessant appreciation from the foreign film fraternity continues till date in a never-seen-before way.

And now, there is yet another big reason to rejoice for Indian movie buffs. Because ‘RRR’ has recently received the coveted ‘Must-See’ certificate on the reputed reviews aggregation website Metacritic.

A film is designated as ‘Must-See’ on Metacritic when it achieves a Metascore of 81 or higher and has been reviewed by at least fifteen professional critics. ‘RRR’ qualifies as it holds a score of 83 based on 15 critic reviews. Interestingly, only around 5% of movies in Metacritic’s database qualify for ‘Must-See’ status, so it’s a big thing.

Out of the top 1000 movies of all time listed on Metacritic from across the world, only one other Indian movie presently appears to be on the premium international list. And that Indian movie is none other than Ashutosh Gowariker’s Oscar-nominated period sports drama ‘Lagaan’ starring Aamir Khan and holds a marginally higher Metascore of 84 compared to ‘RRR’.

S.S Rajamouli’s period action movie ‘RRR’ features Ram Charan and Jr NTR in the lead roles and Ajay Devgn, and Alia Bhatt in pivotal roles. ‘RRR’ is a fictional tale set in the 1920s that revolves around two legendary Indian revolutionaries namely Alluri Sitarama Raju (played by Ram Charan) and Komaram Bheem (played by Jr. NTR). ‘RRR’ is currently streaming on Netflix, Zee5, and Disney+ Hotstar in India and elsewhere on the Netflix OTT platform.
