Fans of superstar actors such as Thala Ajith, Rajinikanth, Akshay Kumar, Allu Arjun, Prabhas, Mohanlal and Yash, among others, have found a new way of gauging the popularity of their icons and their buzzy upcoming films — by the number of “interests” generated by a movie on Book My Show (BMS). For those who don’t know, Book My Show is a ticketing website that is also a fast-growing paid video on demand Indian OTT platform.
Audiences show their preferences for upcoming films by clicking the “interested” button for a film on the upcoming films section in Book My Show. Fan clubs of actors have begun the trend of sharing the “Interests” numbers for their favourite actors’ films on social media.
A lot of churn has taken place in the number of “interests” for trending films in recent days. There are several new entrants, while prevailing ones have increased their interest numbers. Some like Thala Ajith’s Valimai have even lost a number of interests (gasp!). Fast And Furious 9 has raced ahead of top upcoming Indian films.
What’s really surprising is that the films that make the most noise on social media platforms such as Twitter are languishing at the bottom of the pile. Vijay’s Beast, Rajnikanth’s Annaatthe, Pawan Kalyan’s Bheemla Nayak, Chiranjeevi’s Acharya, Prabhas’ Salaar and RadheShyam are a few such films.
Even more surprisingly, a long-delayed unreleased film, with no hope of releasing soon is in the top ten! Also, Mohanlal’s “Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simha” was on the top 3 earlier, with 110.2K interests. But now, it has disappeared from Book My Show “Interests”.
