Sanya Malhotra, The New Spark In Town

By Binged Bureau - Apr 01, 2021 @ 04:04 pm

She is Pahalwan; she is Pataakha; she is Pagglait!

She is also a fantastic player in the game of Ludo. On the whole, we can say that Sanya Malhotra is a complete package of wit, entertainment and acting prowess.

This relatively new “Delhi Girl” in the industry, with only five years of experience to her name, is pulling all the strings to become one of the most versatile actresses of the country.

A trained ballet dancer, who recently confessed that she was rejected by Dance Guru Dharmesh Yelande in an audition, made a name for herself by choosing mostly off-bit projects, taking a different path to success.

When Dangal happened in 2016, nobody really assumed that this ‘simple-looking’ girl is a “Volcano of Talent” – to quote Rishi Kapoor in Luck by Chance. After Dangal, when we saw her in Pataakha and Badhaai Ho, it was like seeing her from a whole new angle. From being “gaon ki chhori” to “a smart Uptown Girl”, Malhorta showed how versatile she could be. Then came Photograph and Shakuntala Devi, where she got to share screen space and match talents with Nawazuddin Siddiqui and OG Female Hero Vidya Balan, and we were bowled over by her performances which were literally at par with the likes of Siddiqui and Balan.

But her biggest breakthrough would definitely be her next two ventures, which were Ludo and Pagglait. She was flawless in her ‘upwardly mobile’ avatar in Ludo; and in Pagglait, she went to a completely new level. Pagglait is definitely something which should put her in the off-bit A-listers of Bollywood in the near future. Pagglait is the story of a young widow who begins to realise things about herself and everything around her, including her family, only after her husband’s death. The way she portrays herself as a disenchanted, detached widow who can’t even cry at the death of her husband is truly commendable, and definitely deserves some recognition.

To conclude, her career till now is full of extremely unexpected choices and that’s the reason why she is fit to play any character, be it physically demanding or mentally. She does not really fit into the ‘’hoi polloi’’ of the commercial lot of actresses. But as we have already established earlier, this “Pahalwan-Paatakha-Pagglait” girl has what it takes to put herself to be the best of the new lot of Bollywood
