Fans of Emma Stone and Yorgos Lanthimos have to wait a few more months to watch their upcoming collaboration, Poor Things, in theatres. The film’s release window has been pushed back to December 8, from its previous release date, September 8. It is expected to receive a world premiere at this year’s Venice Film Festival, scheduled to take place in August 2023.
The ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike has forced many studios to delay the release of many of their feature and TV projects.
Lanthimos bagged the prestigious Grand Jury Prize in 2018 for his masterpiece, The Favourite, at the 75th Venice Film Festival.
The forthcoming surrealist sci-fi comedy-drama, Poor Things, will revolve around a young woman, Bella (Emma Stone). Dr. Godwin Baxter (Willem Dafoe) gives her a new life. Soon, Bella starts dreaming about going out of Baxter’s house and exploring the world on her own. Her desire for world exploration inspires her to run away with Duncan Wedderburn (Mark Ruffalo), a clever and debauched lawyer. After travelling across different continents, she starts demanding liberation and equality for women.
The film takes inspiration from Alasdair Gray and is produced by Lanthimos, Stone, Ed Guiney, and Andrew Lowe.
Apart from Stone, Dafoe, and Ruffalo, ‘Poor Things’ stars Margaret Qualley, Kathryn Hunter, Christopher Abbott, Ramy Youssef, Jarod Carmichael, and many more. It will hit theatres worldwide on December 8. Stay tuned for more updates.
