‘Shaakuntalam’ Trailer: Whimsical, Epic & Ethereal Tale Of Love

By Binged Bureau - Jan 09, 2023 @ 12:01 pm

The trailer for Samantha Ruth Prabhu’s ’Shaakuntalam’ is here and it’s as epic as ethereal. Helmed by Gunasekara, ‘Shaakuntalam’ will release in theatres worldwide in Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam and Kannada on 17th February, 2023.

Shaakuntalam’ trailer centres around Shakuntala (Samantha), the abandoned daughter of Menaka and Vishwamitra, who was born for a greater purpose. Soon she and king Dushyant (Dev Mohan) of the Puru dynasty fall in love and get into a marital relationship, hidden from the world.

Things take a turn when Shakuntala gets pregnant and Dushyant betrays her in full court by denying having any knowledge about who she was. ‘Shaakuntalam’ trailer also gives glimpses of a mega war which is somehow connected to Shakuntala and Dushyant. Towards the end of the trailer Shakuntala can be heard saying how she can forget love but not pride and disrespect.

Based on popular and internationally acclaimed Sanskrit play ‘Shakuntala’ by Kalidasa, ‘Shaakuntalam’ is written and directed by Gunasekhar. The story of ‘Shaakuntalam’ revolves around the epic love story of Shakuntala and King Dushyant from Mahabharata.

‘Shaakuntalam’ is a whimsical tale of love set in the Kashyapa Kanumalu (Kashmir) and the film portrays the grandeur and splendour of Dushyant’s Puru Dynasty.

In addition to Samantha and Dev Mohan, the film also stars Mohan Babu, Aditi Balan, Ananya Nagalla, Prakash Raj, Gautami, Madhoo, Jisshu Sengupta, Sachin Khadekar and Kabir Bedi among others. Sekhar V. Joseph is the cinematographer for the film with editing by Prawin Pudi. The film’s music is composed by Mani Sharma.

Neelima Guna has produced ‘Shaakuntalam’ under her Gunna Teamworks banner with Dil Raju’s Sri Venkateswara Creations serving as the film’s distributor. ‘Shaakuntalam’ will release worldwide in cinemas in Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, ka and Malayalam on 17th February and will also be available in 3D.
