After years of wait, there is finally a piece of incredibly good news for ardent admirers of eminent Indian author Amish Tripathi’s ‘Shiva Trilogy’ book series. Along with some other projects, the bestselling ‘Shiva Trilogy’ book series is now reportedly (via Variety) being adapted into a series through a creative collaboration between reputed studio International Art Machine and India’s top talents including Shekhar Kapur, Preity Zinta, Amish Tripathi, Dibakar Banerjee, and Suparn S. Varma.
The first book of the genre-defining ‘Shiva Trilogy’ book series ‘The Immortals of Meluha’ is all set to be adapted into a series titled ‘Shiva’. The highly anticipated series will be directed by none other than globally renowned Indian filmmaker Shekhar Kapur, whose directorial credits include some fine films such as ‘Masoom’, Mr. India’, ‘Bandit Queen’, and ‘Elizabeth’.
Besides Shekhar Kapur, also attached to the ‘Shiva Trilogy’ series adaptation as its showrunner and director is Suparn S. Varma, who is still basking in the glory of his latest directorial series ‘The Family Man Season 2’ for the Amazon Prime Video OTT platform.
For the unversed, Amish Tripathi’s first book of the Shiva Trilogy – ‘The Immortals of Meluha’ is set in 1900 BC and narrates the story of a rugged but well-intentioned Tibetan immigrant named Shiva and how he becomes the beacon of hope and a savior for the Meluhans in their war against the Chandravanshis. The bestselling book was followed by ‘The Secret of the Nagas’ and ‘The Oath of the Vayuputras’.
Some of you might already be aware of the fact that filmmaker Karan Johar had bought the rights to ‘The Immortals of Meluha’ in the year 2014 but the ambitious big-screen adaptation didn’t move forward on account of fear of repercussions. Bollywood heartthrob Hrithik Roshan was in talks to star as the protagonist Shiva.
Sometime after Karan Johar’s contract expired, it was reported that Shiva Trilogy will be adapted as a web series and is being backed by an undisclosed US-based production house. As mentioned earlier, International Art Machine is behind the latest Shiva Trilogy mythological series adaptation.
Other than the ‘Shiva Trilogy’ series adaptation, popular Indian actress Preity Zinta will create a dramedy thriller titled ‘The Kitty Party’, which is being touted as a female-driven murder mystery.
The ambitious lineup of projects also includes a political drama titled ‘Gods’ to be helmed by maverick filmmaker Dibakar Banerjee, who has previously made films like ‘Khosla Ka Ghosla’, ‘Shanghai’, and ‘Detective Byomkesh Bakshy!’, to name a few. ‘Gods’ is somewhat inspired by some of the best 80s and 90s Indian TV shows.
