We are just days away from the release of the much anticipated movie “Shershaah”. Fans are excited to see the never before seen avatar of actor Sidharth Malhotra in Shershaah. Shershaah is set to have an OTT release on Amazon Prime Video on the 12th of August. It is an already known fact that Shershaah tells the real life account of Kargil hero Captain Vikram Batra and how he valiantly fought for his country and sacrificed his life to protect his motherland. Shershaah’s story will be a testament to what Captain Vikram Batra’s life stood for and what his sacrifice meant to India.
In recent times, it is being noticed that more and more movies on real life incidents are being displayed on the big screen. From movies like Uri: The Surgical Strike, Kesari, Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl to many more, war themed movies have become a major hit amongst the Indian audience and it is attracting audiences from every region. The success of such stories is not limited to just the Hindi speaking belt, these recent Bollywood movies have done well in other non-hindi speaking belts too.
The reason for that can be simple. The sheer emotion of watching a movie that shows the lives of the dedicated soldiers who lay down their lives to protect the nation is the main factor behind the movie being a hit. But now, it is also more than that. War movies aren’t a brand new phenomenon, they have been here in the film industry for a long time now and every movie has been a hit in its own way. But now, the reasons are a bit different.
Earlier war movies, especially movies before 2010s used the “emotion” tactic to bring the audience together for the movie. The patriotism played an excessively major role in bringing success to such movies. But, now thanks to advancements filmmakers can show more and rely less on just emotions. One of the driving forces for movies now has been the VFX and various techniques used to make movies look more realistic. This gives a chance to the fans to witness a visual galore too.
Also, there’s an added benefit now, to show the more recent stories, filmmakers use a lot of technology which was also used for the actual wars or missions. The reason Uri: The Surgical Strike was such a big success was because of the incredible war plan it focused on and how it was shown on screens.
Emotions definitely will be essential parts of movies like this, but now it is quite evident that along with patriotism and emotions, fans can witness a visual extravaganza, something which wasn’t in use earlier. Same will be the case with “Shershaah”. Shershaah might be a movie that is set in the 90s, but the way it is shot, the techniques and uniqueness it has used to depict those 90s scenes and yet make it relatable is a big point for the makers and the movie.
Shershaah, for sure will be the next war movie that fans will remember for a long, long time now. Or at least that’s what we hope for. It is crucial too, because it isn’t a fictional story but actually a reality that changed the lives of so many people that were even remotely related to Captain Vikram Batra.
