K-Drama fans in India are super miffed with Disney Plus Hotstar at the moment. And it all has to do with a new Korean drama. Subscribers of Disney+ Hotstar in other Asian countries got to watch hot new K-drama ‘Snowdrop‘ as soon as the first two episodes aired on parent channel JTBC this past weekend. However, subscribers of Disney Plus Hotstar in India are still waiting for Snowdrop to begin streaming for them.
Indian K-drama fans have posted a barrage of queries on Disney Plus Hotstar’s social media handles regarding Snowdrop’s no-show in India. Their queries have met with a cryptic reply from Disney Plus Hotstar that states, “Snowdrop will not be available immediately in India. Stay tuned for further updates.”
For those who don’t know, Disney has picked up a huge slate of Korean content for streaming on Disney Plus. The strategic move is in response to the massive crazy for Korean dramas and films among digital viewers today. It makes sense to move with the times and cash in on the K-drama mania. Not just K-Dramas, Disney has also commissioned a slate of Chinese dramas (C-drama) and Japanese anime, both of which are enjoying rising popularity around the world. Disney has grabbed upwards of 20 titles of Asian content. Snowdrop is the first of the lot that has begun streaming on Disney Plus Hotstar and Disney Plus in several regions. Alas, India is still not one of those.
Snowdrop is a romantic drama, set in the backdrop of the 1987 Democratic Movement in South Korea. The series is a much talked about one, for the sole reason that it stars Jisoo as the female lead. Jisoo, aka Kim Ji-soo, is a member of the popular K-Pop all-girls band, Blackpink. Jisoo plays Eun Young-ro, a university student who shelters an injured and bloodied Im Soo-ho (Jung Hae-in) in her university dorm room. However, it is revealed that Soo-ho is not who he appears to be.
Well, going by Disney Plus Hotstar’s standard responses to all the queries regarding ‘Snowdrop’ streaming in India, looks like fans in India will just have to wait a while longer for the K-drama to begin streaming in the country.
