Streaming giant Amazon Prime Video recently dropped an exquisite trailer for its upcoming science fiction anthology television series titled ‘Solos’.
The trailer revealed sublime snippets of several Academy Award-winning actors including Morgan Freeman (Million Dollar Baby), Anne Hathaway (Les Miserables), and Helen Mirren (The Queen)
Besides, it features stellar performers like Anthony Mackie (The Falcon and The Winter Soldier), Dan Stevens (The Guest), Emmy Award-winner Uzo Aduba (Orange Is the New Black), Constance Wu (Crazy Rich Asians), and Nicole Beharie (American Violet).
The trailer starts off with Morgan Freeman’s soothing voiceover with the words “A memory isn’t simply a thing you have… it’s a promise.”
The trailer further shows us Helen Mirren sitting ‘alone’ in a futuristic space vehicle, Uzo Aduba sitting ‘alone’ on a couch, Anna Hathaway working ‘alone’ in her workspace loaded with sophisticated gadgetry (with the word ‘TIME’ written on her workboard), Morgan Freeman sitting ‘alone’ on the beachside, and these characters enunciating the connecting word – ‘Alone’.
Morgan Freeman’s ethereal voiceover resumes later in the trailer and says “And we all feel alone in different ways. In feeling alone, we are somehow all together.” And the trailer ends on an emotional note.
‘Solos’ will feature seven character-driven stories and from the trailer, it seems somewhat apparent that the characters shown in each of these stories deal with the feeling of being alone. So, ‘Alone’ is ostensibly the unifying factor that somehow interlinks these stories.
From the official synopsis and the recently released trailer, it seems that ‘Solos’ will apparently be inclined more towards the human element, soul-stirring performances, and delivering a meaningful message, rather than solely focussing on the future of advanced technologies.
Nevertheless, ‘Solos’ will touch upon fascinating techno-concepts like time travel, illegal memory transplants, A.I. bots, scheming smart homes, near-future fertility treatments, etc. So, besides being a visual spectacle, it’s most likely going to be a different yet intense experience for the audience.
‘Solos’ television series is slated to release on the Amazon Prime Video streaming platform from May 21, 2021, onwards. In its own words, ‘Solos’ is eight inspiring performances in seven stories with one profound connection.
The series has been created by David Weil (the creator of the Al Pacino starrer television show ‘Hunters’). And it has been directed by David Weil, Sam Taylor-Johnson, Zach Braff, and Tiffany Johnson.
