Back in September 2019, SonyLIV released their first ever Tamil original web series titled Iru Dhuruvam. The television series did well and it gained some traction but eventually the series fell into obscurity. Now, in the past few days, Iru Dhuruvam’s cult following has taken to twitter, asking the director, lead actor and production company as well as the streaming platform regarding the release of a potential season 2 for the crime thriller drama serial. Check out these tweets at the end of the article.
Iru Dhuruvam was actually dropped back in 2019 as a 9-part mini series. The entire story was to be told in 9 episodes with no chance of a second season in the future – as far as the story went anyway. But with this renewed interest from the web series’ fans and a now-well-known name for the SonyLIV crime drama series, the OTT platform should think about commissioning another season for this much loved Tamil drama.
Iru Dhuruvam follows a series of serial killings in the city of Chennai with the serial killer having a very specific M.O. – the killer carves the number ‘6’ on the bark of the tree where he leaves his tortured victims. A disgraced cop, Victor Selladurai, is one of the investigators of the case and he has to find out the killer and stop him from creating more corpses while battling heavy accusations within his professional circle that say that he was responsible for his wife’s death.
Mkumaran scripted the screenplay for Iru Dhuruvam and directed all nine episodes. Nandha, Ajit Koshy, Anisha, Abdool, Sebastin Antony, Abhirami Iyer and Ravi Jiva all play important characters throughout the crime drama web series. Sona Jayaram and Vignesh Menon acted as executive producers of the television series.
Iru Dhuruvam is currently streaming for free on SonyLIV.
