After a spate of previous postponements, Sony Pictures has further pushed back the release date for the highly anticipated Marvel superhero movie ‘Morbius’ starring Jared Leto by more than two months, and the film is now slated to come out on 1st April 2022. Initially, the film was scheduled to release on 10th July 2020 but was subsequently delayed (owing to the pandemic situation) to multiple dates namely 31st July 2020, 18th March 2021, 8th October 2021, 21st January 2022, and 29th January 2022.
The latest release delay for ‘Morbius’ has come at a time when the latest MCU movie ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ (distributed by Sony) is still setting the box-office on fire and has become one of the biggest blockbusters of all time and amidst the recent surge in cases pertaining to the Omicron variant.
Helmed by Daniel Espinosa (Director – Safe House, Child 44, Life), ‘Morbius’ features Oscar-winning actor Jared Leto (Dallas Buyers Club) in the role of Dr. Michael Morbius, a scientist who is diagnosed with a rare blood disease. In a desperate attempt to cure his illness, Dr. Morbius unintentionally afflicts himself with a type of vampirism. This bestows him with superhuman powers, and he takes on the mantle of the enigmatic antihero Morbius, which is described as one of the most compelling and conflicting Marvel characters in the Sony Pictures Universe.
‘Morbius’ is interestingly the first superhero movie that would connect the world of Marvel characters from Sony Pictures Universe to that of Disney’s Marvel Cinematic Universe. This was apparent when the film’s trailer featuring Spider-Man street-sign posters was revealed a couple of months back. Moreover, ‘Morbius’ would also see acclaimed actor Michael Keaton reprising his role as The Vulture from the 2017 MCU movie ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ starring Tom Holland as the titular web-slinger.
Fans are earnestly hoping that the 1st April 2022 release for Jared Leto’s ‘Morbius’ would not further be hampered by any adverse circumstances affecting the movie’s release. We too are keeping our fingers crossed.
