Stand-up comedy is all the rage these days on OTT platforms. Looking to cash in on the craze is none other than nascent Indian OTT platform, SonyLIV. It has commissioned internet sensation Saloni Gaur for an exclusive comedy show, titled Uncommon Sense With Saloni. Saloni Gaur is a stand up comic with massive following on Twitter and Instagram. This is her first show for an OTT platform, while the first stand up comedy show for SonyLIV. The two coming together is therefore a perfect match!
Saloni Gaur creates engaging content on burning social issues and current events. She deploys observational comedy, anecdotal comedy, character comedy and mimicry in innovative ways to make people laugh. Her Nazma Aapi character is a popular hit among her fans and followers.
By getting Saloni Gaur on board for Uncommon Sense With Saloni, SonyLIV is seeking to diversify its content so as to include a wide range of shows in various genres and categories. It has already built a library of SonyLIV originals, including both web shows and films. Scripted comedy is an obvious next step in its bid to have a variety of content for its subscribers.
Incidentally, SonyLIV is also making a scripted comedy show with Kapil Sharma, the king of TV comedy.
Netflix and Amazon Prime Video have a robust stand-up comedy slate, comprising both Indian and International stand up comics. Amazon Prime’s Comicstaan is a very well received comedy reality show among young adults. Netflix too has reportedly spent a bomb on commissioning the best international comics for exclusive deals with the streaming giant.
Uncommon Sense With Saloni premieres on SonyLIV on 6th November.
