SonyLIV Rebounds After Lacklustre Marketing Of Its OTT Titles

SonyLIV Rebounds After Lacklustre Marketing Of Its OTT Titles

There is no doubt that OTT platform SonyLIV has intermittently churned out some incredibly well-made series including the cult show ‘Scam 1992’, the heartwarming family drama ‘Gullak’, the gripping thriller ‘Tabbar’, and the brilliant biographical drama ‘Rocket Boys’.

However, on the other hand, SonyLIV has also been on the receiving end of criticism by a section of OTT enthusiasts for not promoting some of their titles in a big way. A few weeks back, the opening episode of ‘Charlie Chopra’ – Vishal Bhardwaj’s small screen adaptation of Agatha Christie’s whodunnit ‘The Sittaford Mystery’ started streaming on SonyLIV.

Despite the fact that the show has been helmed by a filmmaker of Vishal Bhardwaj’s calibre and reputation, ‘Charlie Chopra’ was sadly accused of being under-marketed by the streaming giant before and after its release.

Some time back, Ajitpal Singh’s (Director – Tabbar) critically acclaimed film ‘Fire in the Mountains’ also started streaming on SonyLIV. But this movie too was not marketed very aggressively by the OTT platform. As a result, the film might have received a lesser number of views and attention than it deserved.

But it looks like SonyLIV has paid heed to all the criticisms pertaining to under-marketing of its OTT titles and the streaming giant has now rebound with its recent acquisition – ‘Por Thozhil’.

The OTT giant has in fact been actively promoting the critically acclaimed serial killer mystery thriller movie ‘Por Thozhil’ in a big way. The title has not just found a prominent place on its streaming app but it’s also being aggressively marketed on SonyLIV’s Twitter handle every single day since its release last Friday.

So now, it looks like SonyLIV is on the right path and ‘Por Thozhil’ is an excellent film to actively promote. There is no dearth of good quality content on SonyLIV and if the streaming platform continues to aggressively market its high potential titles ‘Por Thozhil’, then it could turn out to be a win-win situation both for SonyLIV and OTT viewers.

‘Por Thozhil’ follows the story of an academically brilliant but weak hearted crime branch trainee Prakash (Ashok Selvan), who must work under the mentorship of a senior cop Loganathan (Sarath Kumar). The rookie cop must overcome his weaknesses and team up with his senior in order to solve a mysterious murder case where it is revealed that a psychopath killer is on the loose. ‘Por Thozhil’ is a highly recommended watch in case you still haven’t seen it.
