Just a couple of days back, the cast members of veteran filmmaker Sooraj Barjatya’s next directorial project titled ‘Uunchai’ announced on their respective social media platforms about the commencement of the filming schedule in Nepal. The film features a star-studded cast that includes Amitabh Bachchan, Anupam Kher, Danny Denzongpa, Boman Irani, Parineeti Chopra, Neena Gupta, and Sarika, amongst others.
Sooraj Barjatya is making his feature film directorial comeback with ‘Uunchai’ after a 6-year hiatus as his last film was the Salman Khan starrer ‘Prem Ratan Dhan Paayo’. And ‘Uunchai’ seems to be a thematic deviation from the filmmaker’s usual fairytale romance stories as its underlying premise is based on the theme of friendship instead of love.
The first filming schedule of ‘Uunchai’ (as per a recent report by Dainik Bhaskar) in Nepal’s capital city Kathmandu commenced on 4th October and is reportedly set for a period of 30 days. The story is based on the friendship between the four lead characters essayed by Amitabh Bachchan, Anupam Kher, Danny Denzongpa, and Boman Irani, who embark on a Himalayan trek. While Parineeti Chopra will ostensibly be seen in the role of a Nepali tourist guide in the film. The ‘Uunchai’ team comprises a total of 500 members from the film’s cast and crew.
The film’s shoot will also be done at one of the most dangerous airports namely the Tenzing-Hillary airport in Nepal, also known as Lukla airport. Subsequently, after 4 days of the shoot at Lukla airport, the team of ‘Uunchai’ will travel to the town of Namche Bazaar, which is called by many as the major gateway to the Everest and other Himalayan peaks of the area. From there the cast and crew will head to the Manang district of Nepal, which is located at an altitude of more than a whopping 11000 feet.
Considering the film’s intriguing theme and breathtaking locales, it would be interesting to see how Sooraj Barjatya’s ‘Uunchai’ will be received by the audiences and whether the eminent filmmaker would be able to impress his fans. Which wasn’t the case with his previous directorial film ‘Prem Ratan Dhan Paayo’.
