‘Record of Ragnarok’ made huge noises when it was released on Netflix last year. With the amazing art and interesting characters, the action drama ended on a huge cliffhanger, with the anime’s second season set to release next year. However, the anime’s first season was met with controversy regarding its portrayal of one of the primary Hindu Gods- Shiva. With Netflix removing the anime’s first season from the streamer in India, the future of the global hit in India is bleak as of now.
Based on a Japanese manga of the same name, the series’ next season will be divided into two parts, much like the fourth season of ‘Attack on Titan’. The first part of 10 episodes is set to debut on Netflix on January 26, 2023, with episodes 11-15 to be released sometime later in 2023.
In the anime, Lord Shiva is portrayed as a brute warrior much similar to Zeus and Odin. This generated concerns from a portion of the Hindu community, who felt this would lead to people who are unaware of the truth of the religion possibly developing misleading ideas. While Shiva is the Destroyer, it is believed that God destroys to allow recreation and to help in constructive growth. Since the second season will also have Lord Shiva’s fictional avatar involved in a fight, it is safe to say the anime will continue its absence in India for the next season as well.
The series is a round-based action anime, where we will get to see two opponents fight each other, with huge stakes involved. The story revolves around a tournament arc between humans and literal Gods from mythology and theology.
The first season had three major exhilarating fights which were between Thor and Lu bu, Zeus and Adam, and Poseidon and warrior Kojiro Saski. The first part of the second season will start with the fourth round to be fought between Greek hero/God Hercules and the infamous serial killer Jack the Ripper fighting on the side of humans.
