STRENGTHS
ALTBalaji has released eight web series in the year 2021 so far with an average IMDb rating of around 8.6/10. This is the highest year-wise rating for the OTT platform until now so far. For instance, the latest crime drama show ‘Cartel’ has received an impressive rating of 9/10 by IMDb users. Selection of some titles such as ‘Bose: Dead/Alive’, ‘The Test Case’, ‘The Verdict – State vs Nanavati’, and ‘Broken But Beautiful’ are ALTBalaji portfolio’s strengths.
WEAKNESSES
Seven titles so far have got an IMDb average rating of less than 7. And out of these seven, ‘Gandii Baat’ and ‘Booo Sabki Phategi’ have received extremely low ratings of 3.4 and 5.3, respectively on IMDb. ALTBalaji could remove this weakness in its portfolio by refraining from selecting such titles in the future. The popular platform may also work out on the marketing aspect for some of the titles which have secured decent ratings but many users might still be unaware of their existence or details thereto.
OPPORTUNITIES
Until now, ALTBalaji has released all titles in its portfolio in the Hindi language so there is tremendous scope for acquiring quality content in other Indian languages as well. Diversification into a greater number of regional titles including Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Bengali, and Marathi, etc. could do the trick.
THREATS
Amazon Prime Video, Netflix, Disney+ Hotstar, and SonyLIV, etc. can be said to be considered as threats to the OTT platform ALTBalaji, owing to the interesting mix of content these platforms are offering.
