Sony Pictures has just dropped the first official poster for its most awaited movie, ‘Spider-Man:No Way Home’. The launch of the Spider-Man: No Way Home poster has come at a time when it’s just over a month to go for the hotly-anticipated film to hit theatres. For those who are still not in the know about it, Tom Holland’s third solo film as Marvel superhero Spider-Man arrives in theatres on 17th December, 2021.
While fans of the franchise, and Marvel fans in general, will no doubt be super excited about the fact that a poster for ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home‘ is finally out, let us tell you that the first poster for the film is surprisingly bland and uninteresting. This, for a film that is stacked with stars from Sam Raimi and Marc Webb’s Spiderverses, and whose first trailer broke the internet when it had released way back in August. The poster features Spidey on all alert, as the sinister octopus arms of Doctor Ock (Alfred Molina) close in on him. But no, that’s not it.
As is the norm with all comic-book and MCU fans who like to read more into every inch of new promos released by the studios, a little more digging into the poster reveals signs of the other villains that are a part of this super-stacked Spider-Man outing. There are the yellow lightning charges that signify the presence of Electro (Jamie Foxx); ominous swirls of sand in the background of the poster indicate that The Sandman (Thomas Haden Church) is not far behind; and finally we have Green Goblin (Willem Dafoe) in silhouette in the backdrop of the poster.
The Spider-Man: No Way Home poster gives no sign of the fifth, albeit highly debated, villain in the film, aka Lizard (Rhys Ifans). The trailer gave fleeting glimpses of what looked like the Lizard, with several netizens opining that it was Venom that could be seen in the trailer and not Lizard. The poster also does not let on to the fiercely guarded secret of the identity of the sixth villain in the film, who will make up the notorious ‘Sinister Six’. Rhino, Vulture and Mysterio are the most likely names being bandied about. Our vote goes to the Vulture (Michael Keaton) being the sixth cog in the wheel, but then we could be wrong.
There’s also talk of Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock/Daredevil being part of Spider-Man: No Way Home. Dr Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) is obviously there to trigger what Sony Pictures’ caption accompanying the poster says, ‘Multiverse Unleashed’! All said and done, the anticipation for ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ is getting more exciting by the day, and fans simply can’t wait for the film to hit theatres. The second trailer for the film should also hit soon enough.
