The King’s Man: Will It End Matthew Vaughn’s Spy Series For Good?

By Binged Bureau - Dec 25, 2021 @ 12:12 pm

There is no denying that this year’s December belongs to big-budget Hollywood entries. Whether it’s Spider-Man No Way Home or The Matrix Resurrections, there is not even an inch for other movies to take a breath on the global box office. And it seems like 20th Century Studios found the most unfortunate time of the year 2021 to release its spy instalment, The King’s Man. It got dispatched theatrically on December 22. Now, it is ready to release in the United Kingdom on the next day of Christmas this year. But the future for Matthew Vaughn’s latest directional is not looking good at all. Will it bury the Kingsman series for good? Let’s find out!

The King’s Man has a big production budget of nearly $100 million. However, the early box office predictions have stated that the movie might collect up to $35-40 million during its entire domestic theatrical run. Additionally, the reports about its global gross amount do not look satisfactory either. Furthermore, we have many big-budget and prominent movies to worry about this month. As a result, it may bomb hard at the box office.

To make things worse, it has a score of 43% on Rotten Tomatoes right now. And this figure will sink more after the arrival of other critical reviews on the platform. The King’s Man is now the lowest-rated instalment in the Kingsman series. Some say RT is not very reliable these days. Still, its score plays a crucial role in deciding the fate of a movie.

The majority of the critics have butchered Vaughn’s newest spy drama. Apart from Ralph Fiennes’ winning performance and stylish action sequences, there is nothing new in this mess of a movie. The Secret Service (2014) is undoubtedly the best Kingsman entry to exist to date. However, we cannot say the same about The Golden Circle (2017). It is an embodiment of the fact that most of the sequels ruin the legacies of the original entries. We know the latest Kingsman instalment serves as a prequel to the previous films in the franchise. But it fails to do justice to the Kingsman series.

If we wrap all the things mentioned above, then it is safe to say that maybe the time has come for Vaughn to leave the Kingsman franchise for good. It will be nothing short of a miracle if The King’s Man becomes a financial success. It stars Ralph Fiennes, Gemma Arterton, Rhys Ifans, Matthew Goode, Tom Hollander, Harris Dickinson, Daniel Bruhl, Djimon Hounsou, and many more.
