Back in the year 2018, Yash Raj Films had revealed the announcement teaser for their period action-adventure film titled ‘Shamshera’.
The aesthetic teaser video gave us a mesmerizing glimpse of Ranbir Kapoor in a never-seen-before avatar. The teaser also had Ranbir Kapoor’s voiceover reciting the film’s tagline “Karam Se Dacait… Dharam Se Azaad…”
Having said that, the release date of ‘Shamshera’ as currently stated on the official website of Yash Raj Films and the movie’s official Twitter handle is June 25, 2021.
However, recently there has been no news regarding the film’s marketing or any other news pertaining to the film’s release. Incidentally, the film went on floors in the year 2018 and was earlier set to release on July 31, 2020.
However, the film was reportedly delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Subsequently, the new release date i.e., June 25, 2021, was announced in February this year.
Considering the present pandemic scenario and the extensive lockdown, we may expect some news from the makers regarding whether the film would still get the scheduled June theatrical release or there would a change in the release date or strategy.
Although, earlier, there were speculations about the film’s release getting postponed. However, there is no official confirmation yet in this regard.
Interestingly, a few days back during the IPL season, Netflix had released an adorably cryptic video featuring Ranbir Kapoor. In the video, Ranbir Kapoor hinted at something by saying “See you soon… after Cricket”. However, the actual meaning of the video can merely be speculated and is subject to interpretation.
‘Shamshera’ is helmed by Karan Malhotra, who had earlier directed Hrithik Roshan’s ‘Agneepath’ co-starring Priyanka Chopra and Sanjay Dutt, besides directing the sports drama ‘Brothers’ featuring Akshay Kumar and Sidharth Malhotra in the titular roles.
‘Shamshera’ is being touted as a high-octane, edge of the seat, period action-adventure, which is set in the heartland of India and is said to contain jaw-dropping action sequences.
The film will feature Ranbir Kapoor in and as ‘Shamshera’ while Sanjay Dutt will be seen as a ruthless, merciless villain. The mega-action entertainer will also feature the gorgeous actress Vaani Kapoor in the character of a traveling performer and apparently Ranbir Kapoor’s love interest.
Ostensibly set in the 1800s pre-independent India and adapted from Howard Pyle’s “Merry Adventures of Robin Hood”, ‘Shamshera’ will reportedly feature Ranbir Kapoor in his first-ever double role. Although this has not yet been officially confirmed by the makers.
Being ardent admirers of Ranbir Kapoor and Sanjay Dutt’s acting chops and considering that the film is directed by the supremely talented filmmaker Karan Malhotra and produced by the brilliant Aditya Chopra, we are super eagerly awaiting the release of the highly anticipated film ‘Shamshera’, irrespective of the platform.
