The story follows the life of an 8 year old orphaned Beth Harmon through her struggles of loving chess. The story will reveal the life of Beth Harmon, a chess prodigy and how she dreams to be a grandmaster in chess. The story will take a riveting turn and also focus on how one can get addicted easily even when they have something to love so much.
The show spirals around the life of Beth, with her gifts for chess and her life destroying addiction. The show predominantly is set in the Cold War era, so the audience will be able to watch the mindset, lifestyle, relationships and friendships of how things used to flow back then. The series is based off the 1983 novel with the same name by Walter Tevis.
The miniseries is developed by Scott Frank and Allan Scott. It is directed by Scott Farnk, starring Anya Taylor-Joy, Bill Camp, Moses Ingram, Thomas Brodie-Sangster and Harry Melling. The composer of the show is Carlos Rafael Rivera, who also has composed for another Netflix Miniseries ‘Godless’. This show can give an audience insight on how easy it can be to fall for addiction and also struggle to succeed in making your dreams come true. This looks like a strong woman led series which can very easily become a hidden gem, as this might not fall under the normal fascinating genre of many people.
