The investigative crime thriller ‘Bhakshak’ produced by Shah Rukh Khan‘s Red Chillies Entertainment is back on track. Earlier announced with actor Arjun Kapoor, who opted out of the film last year, ‘Bhakshak’ is all set to go on floors soon with a new lead, who is none other than actress Bhumi Pednekar. The film is written and directed by Pulkit, who previously helmed the AltBalaji web series, ‘Bose: Dead or Alive’, starring Rajkummar Rao in the lead and is said to be a hard-hitting female-led venture, expected to commence filming in January next year.
‘Bhakshak’ is reportedly based on the 2018 Muzaffarpur shelter home case, where many young girls were allegedly abused, raped and tortured for months. Most of the confined minors (aged 7-17), were found to have been subjected to sexual and physical assault. The horrific case sparked anger and nationwide protests, leading to a CBI investigation. The main accused, Brajesh Thakur, was convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment in January last year. According to reports, Bhumi Pednekar will be seen in the film as a journalist who attempts to expose this heinous crime in Bihar.
‘Bhakshak’ was previously in the works with Arjun Kapoor in the lead, although the actor had to drop out of the project citing date issues. Originally scheduled to begin filming from March 2020, the movie was postponed indefinitely due to the pandemic and will finally go on floors early next year. Apparently, since Bhumi will now lead the film, ‘Bhakshak’ is being made as a female-centric, thriller drama. Meanwhile, Bhumi is almost done with the filming of Aanand L Rai’s ‘Raksha Bandhan’ alongside Akshay Kumar, the schedule of which should wrap up in a weeks’ time.
