A few weeks back we had made our readers aware of the Indian movie titles from the year 2021 that made it to the top 250 Indian movies IMDb list, and that around half of them unsurprisingly belonged to the in-form Malayalam film industry. Last week, we also informed you that another critically acclaimed Malayalam movie had proudly become the 12th film from the year 2021 to join the coveted IMDb list. The film had even surpassed the brilliant boxing movie ‘Sarpatta Parambarai’.
In an interesting development, the same Malayalam film has now outranked the deftly executed mystery thriller ‘Drishyam 2’ starring legendary actor Mohanlal. Yes, we are talking about Amazon Prime Video’s endearing relationship drama ‘#Home’. The film is currently rated a highly impressive 9.1 on IMDb (movie’s home page). ‘#Home’ is now two ranks ahead of ‘Sarpatta Parambarai’ and just one rank ahead of ‘Drishyam 2’.
However, a surprising aspect is that on IMDb’s top 250 Indian movies page, ‘#Home’, ‘Sarpatta Parambarai’, and ‘Drishyam 2’ – all three are rated 8.3/10. This suggests that the higher rank of ‘#Home’ may be based on IMDb’s internal ranking mechanism. Consequently, ‘#Home’ is now the top-ranked Indian movie title from the year 2021 on the list.
‘#Home’ is based on an uncomplicated yet relatable premise that revolves around a technologically challenged father Oliver Twist (played by Indrans), who yearns for his son’s attention in the alien world of smartphones, where everyone is immersed in social media platforms. The simple and effective storytelling is further accentuated by a heartfelt lead performance.
Besides ‘#Home’, the other eleven Indian film titles on the current IMDb list from the year 2021 are ‘Shershaah’, ‘Mimi’, ‘Sarpatta Parambarai’, ‘Malik’, ‘State of Siege: Temple Attack’, ‘Karnan’, ‘Nayattu’, ‘Joji’, ‘Mandela’, ‘Drishyam 2’, and ‘The Great Indian Kitchen’.
