This Week’s Top Indian OTT Releases: Gargi, Malayankunju & More

Last week was marked with the arrival of some exciting Indian OTT titles including several films and web series such ‘Kaduva’, ‘Darlings’, ‘Crash Course’, and ‘Victim- Who is Next?’, to name a few.

Likewise, the current week too has some eagerly anticipated OTT films and web series coming up. For this article, we have compiled a list of the top Indian titles streaming on OTT platforms this week.

Happy Birthday (Streaming on Netflix from 8th August)

The film’s story is set in a fictional world where a Gun Bill is passed by the defence minister (Vennela Kishore). As a result, everyone is liberalized to own a firearm. In such a situation, the lives of various characters including Happy (Lavanya Tripathi), Lucky (Naresh Agastya), Max Pain (Satya), Uncle Fixit, Serena and William intersect.

Indian Matchmaking Season-2 (Streaming on Netflix from 10th August)

In the eight-part series, Mumbai-based matchmaking specialist Sima Taparia uses her terrific network and a mix of modern methods and traditional ways to help singles find the ideal life partners they are looking for.

Malayankunju (Streaming on Amazon Prime Video from 11th August)

Set against the backdrop of a hilly region during the monsoon season, the survival thriller movie features Fahadh Faasil as Anikuttan / Anil Kumar, a reclusive electronics technician who lives with his mother. One day, he gets trapped under the debris of a landslide and how he fights for his life forms the rest of the film’s story.

Beautiful Billo (Streaming on Zee5 from 11th August)

The comedy drama Punjabi film features Neeru Bajwa in the titular role of a pregnant woman named Billo, who gets involved with a couple, leading to a hilarious turn of events.

Rashtra Kavach Om (Streaming on Zee5 from 11th August)

Helmed by Kapil Verma in his feature film directorial debut, ‘Rashtra Kavach Om’ features Aditya Roy Kapoor as the titular protagonist Om Rathore, who is portrayed as a special forces para-commando officer who returns half-dead after getting shot in a dangerous mission. After he wakes up, he finds out that he has lost his memory. Eventually, he learns that his father Dev Rathore (Jackie Shroff) was declared a traitor. Now, he must restore his father’s honour and prove his innocence to the world.

The Warriorr (Streaming on Disney+ Hotstar from 11th August)

Helmed by N. Linguswamy, the action movie follows an MBBS graduate Satya (played by Ram Pothineni) who relocates to Madurai where he locks horns with a local don Guru (Aadhi Pinisetty). As a result, the dreaded criminal forces Satya to leave the place but he comes back as the city’s DSP to put an end to Guru’s heinous wrongdoings.

Udan Patolas Season-2 (Streaming on Amazon MiniTV from 11th August)

The web series revolves around the lives of four small-town girls Apoorva Arora (Punni), Sukhmani Sadana (Lovelle), Poppy Jabbal (Amrit), and Aasttha Ssidana (Noor), who navigate their personal and professional lives in Mumbai while always looking out for each other.

Window Seat (Streaming on Zee5 from 11th August)

The Kannada language romantic thriller movie follows a musician named Raghu (Nirup Bhandari), who loves to take his favourite window seat during his daily commute. One day, his life takes a drastic turn when he witnesses a murder, and he tries to be a righteous man by trying to unravel the mystery, but gets more than what he had bargained for.

Gargi (Streaming on SonyLIV from 12th August)

The film’s basic plotline follows the titular schoolteacher Gargi (essayed by Sai Pallavi), who is all geared up to get married soon. Her father Brahmanandam (RS Shivaji) is employed as a security guard in a housing society. One day, when her father does not return home, Gargi learns that he has been wrongfully accused in a sexual assault case of a minor. Gargi’s ensuing legal battle to prove her father’s innocence forms the rest of the film’s plot.

Cadaver (Streaming on Disney+ Hotstar from 12th August)

Helmed by Anoop Panicker, the mystery crime thriller follows a forensic expert Dr. Badra (played by Amala Paul), who tries to solve the brutal case of rape and murder of a young girl.

Hello World (Streaming on Zee5 from 12th August)

The eight-episode workplace drama web series follows the story of a group of eight young techies from different walks of life and how they deal with their new IT jobs in the cutthroat corporate world.

Murder by the Sea (Streaming on Hoichoi from 12th August)

It’s a whodunnit show helmed by Anjan Dutt. The story revolves around the murder of a hotshot businessman in Puri and takes a complex turn when the suspects become the targets and the body count begins to rise.

Thank You (Streaming on Amazon Prime Video from 12th August)

The Telugu language romantic drama movie follows an arrogant and self-proclaimed self-made businessman Abhiram (played by Naga Chaitanya), who is forced to retrospect on the defining moments in his life after his girlfriend (Raashi Khanna) gets fed up with his attitude and decides to leave him.

Nikamma (Streaming on Netflix from 14th August)

The action-comedy movie features Abhimanyu Dassani in the role of Adi, an unemployed youth who realizes that his strict sister-in-law Avni (Shilpa Shetty) has always cared for him. That’s when he decides to protect her from a powerful businessman Vikramjeet (Abhimanyu Singh), who wants to get Avni killed.
