This movie has the highest IMDB rating for a film and the premise is very simple and interesting yet iconic scenes and dialogues in this movie will fill you with a lot of hope and inspiration for the coming year. The Shawshank Redemption failed at the box office but has gained a cult status over time.
Sleepless in Seattle

This cute little story is about an 8-year-old boy who is heartbroken to see the void that is left in his father after the death of his wife and makes him call a national radio talk show in the hopes of getting him a good companion. It stars Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan in pivotal roles and is a perfect watch as you will fall in love with the subtle innocence of the boy who is trying to find his father a companion as well as Sam (played by Tom hanks) who is initially hesitant to take this step as he is still reeling from his loss.
Begin Again

Begin Again is the story of Gretta who is left alone in the city when her boyfriend ditches her but there is a ray of hope after Dan who is a record label executive notices her talent. Begin again is the story of the unique friendship that takes place between them and highlights the amazing power that music possesses. It has arguably one of the best soundtracks in recent years with soulful renditions that will make you teary eyed. Both the story and the songs on Begin Again will tug at your heart and is surely a great way to end the year.
50 First dates

50 First dates is the story of Henry who falls in love with Lucy who suffers from Short Term memory loss. Lucy does not remember Henry so every day he has to hope that she decides to be with him for one more day with a fresh romance every day. 50 First dates is the perfect thing to watch with your plus 1 as Henry becomes the epitome of what true love can do to you and how he never wavers from his goal of getting Lucy to love him every single day even if she may not remember him the next. A unique yet beautiful story is enough to melt your heart especially with established actors like Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore playing the main couple on screen as their chemistry has a certain charm to it.
La La Land

This musical is the story of Sebastian and Mia who are artists that are drawn together by the love of their craft but as they slowly start to gain success in their fields, they realise the fragile state of their love affair and it almost seems like the dreams that they worked so hard to achieve will almost tear them apart and gives you a better understanding of how success can take its toll on you especially if you haven’t built a secure base for yourself. The cinematography and frames of this movie will captivate your imagination juxtaposed by the soulful music that is present in the background will leave you wanting for more. The on-screen presence of Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone will leave you in awe.

This new year many of us will not have been in the most perfect shape or even where we may have expected to be but these films will help you see the silver lining and maybe, just maybe momentarily help you forget about all the worries and anxieties that you had to face this year.
