Top 5 Hindi Films To Stream On The 73rd Republic Day!

Top 5 Hindi Films To Stream On The 73rd Republic Day!

India is celebrating 73rd Republic Day today. The day marks the enactment of the Indian constitution. We celebrate our rights, nation, diversity and the sacrifices that were made for it.

Unlike Independence Day, this day is more about ideologies and thought. So we bring you 5 Hindi streaming recommendations in which ideology ignited great actions.

Swades- Netflix
Shahrukh Khan‘s Swadesh is the story of a USA based Indian scientist Mohan Bhargav. He initially despises the poor living standards in India but later gives it a thought. He starts advocating and then bringing social reforms as well as using his scientific skill.

After realisation, he abandons his job at NASA and starts working in the village for the upliftment of locals.

Lagaan- Netflix
Again by the same director, Ashutosh Gowariker, Lagaan is an epic musical that is probably the most famous patriotic film of the 21st century. Set in colonial India, Lagaan revolves around a young man called Bhuvan. He contests against the Britishers in a cricket match to save the village from paying taxes.

This movie tells us about the importance of courage and willpower. AR Rahman’s music and Javed Akhtar’s lyrics elevate the experience of the film to a whole next level. Widely hailed as the most opulent musical of the 2000s, the songs are still a treat to the ears.

Purab Aur Paschim- Zee5
Manoj Kumar films are filled with philosophy and nationalism. So no list of ideologically driven patriotic films can be completed without his masterpiece Purab Aur Paschim. The movie has an opulent soundtrack that also includes “Hai Preet Jahan Ki Reet Sada”.

The story is about the son of a freedom fighter who goes to England and tries to change the mindset of people towards India.

While watching the movie, don’t forget that it was made for the audience of 1970 and a few things may seem illogical or over the top in 2022.

The movie is about being proud of the Indian culture and distant ourselves from prejudices.

Rang De Basanti- Netflix
This Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra film brought down tears in the eyes of those who watched. It talks about 5 friends who are caught in a little similar as Bhagat Singh and other freedom fighters. Bhagat Singh rebelled against the British government and these boys rebelled against their own corrupt government.

This movie is highly ideologically driven and takes a very deep layered level of understanding.

AR Rahman’s music blended with the heart-piercing lyrics of Prasoon Joshi makes the experience divine. The movie features legendary actress Waheeda Rehman and Lata Mangeshkar’s Luka Chhupi picturised on her goes straight into the heart.

Sardar Udham- Prime Video
There is hardly a recent Hindi movie that can match up to the intensity and philosophy of Sardar Udham. Released last year, this movie stars Vicky Kaushal as Sardar Udham.

It is a gem that talks about the thin line of difference between terrorism and rebellion. Unlike most patriotic films, there are no snappy dialogues but just a minimalistic performance where eyes do the talking.
