Marvel’s ‘What If…?’ released its seventh episode, titled – “What If… Thor Were An Only Child?” Unlike the other episodes, this episode of the animated anthology series is a complete light-hearted affair, almost entirely funny. It revolves around the plot of the film ‘Thor’, but in a timeline where Thor grew up as an only son. Without Loki to temper his personality early on, he grows up partying with everyone he knows. This episode has a lot of call-backs, cameos and references, while the Easter Eggs department remains small. We still managed to put together 7 noticeable Easter Eggs, references and call-backs in the sixth episode of What If…? – so check it out:
The Party Prince
What would Thor look like without someone to curb his warmongering and over-the-top tendencies? He becomes a partying prince apparently. While he does not crave war like Thor from the original MCU timeline, this episode’s Thor acts like a college student who likes to party every chance he gets.
The Duck Is Back
Howard the Duck makes another appearance in this animated anthology series – and he gets married to Darcy Lewis of all people, in Vegas. Seth Green returns to voice the frequently cameo-ing MCU character.
Tech Difference Between Asgard and Midgard
Asgardian technology has always been powered by magic, while Earth tech have always needed electricity (which required power from a fossil fuel source). While the differences in technological advancements between the two races have been mentioned earlier in the MCU (In ‘Thor: The Dark World’), this is the first time Thor or rather an Asgardian stated how differently their technology was developed. Is Midgard getting more powerful now? Not likely.
Peace With Jotunheim
With Thor being the Party Prince and Odin having returned Loki back to his father, Laufey, there is peace between the Asgardians and the frost giants. Loki and Thor are best friends (for some reason) and their friendship pretty much cements that friendship.
A Cameo Spectacle
Similar to the “T’Challa becoming Star-Lord” episode, this episode is filled with multiple cameos from MCU’s favourite aliens. These include Korg, Drax, Nebula, Heimdall, Frigga, Lady Sif, The Warriors Three, Captain Marvel and many, many more. It’s quite awesome.
Captain Marvel vs Thor
An unexpected fight, but one we have been dying to see. It was kinda awesome to see both Thor and Carol, two of the strongest Avengers, knock each other out of France and England respectively – and the fact we got to see multiple landscapes just shows how the animation helps to keep the episodes versatile. Still, we are a little disappointed that we couldn’t see them go at it at full strength. Still, the fight was epic and funny at the same time.
Vision Ultron Hybrid?
The entire episode was quite light-hearted, but that didn’t stop the creators from dropping a huge cliffhanger at the end of this episode. In the last few seconds of this episode, we see an army of Ultron robots come to face Thor and leading them is Vision, in an Ultron Suit. What’s more, he had all six infinity stones. This is a huge plot hole, but we will take it for now.
