Ranbir Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor starrer ‘Tu Jhoothi Main Makkar’ released yesterday and going by its day one collection at the box office the film has done pretty well given that its genre is something that’s less preferred these days.
For past some years films with huge budget, scale, drama, action, thrill, and mass appeal are the ones that have outperformed others and attracted movie goers to theatres. Only a few films in like ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2’, ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ etc that didn’t check all those above mentioned boxes did decent business upon release in theatres.
People want value for money and it’s a common thought that spending bucks on movie ticket and going to theatres only makes sense when there’s something massive to watch that justifies the big screen.
Despite all this when films like ‘Tu Jhoothi Main Makkar’ that entertain with genres like romance and comedy do well in theatres it goes to prove that there’s still hope for cinema as an overall art and not something that’s siloed. It’s the good content that matters at the end of the day.
Moreover, neither the actors nor the makers went all out for ‘Tu Jhoothi Main Makkar’ promotions contrary to Akshay Kumar’s ‘Selfiee’. Setting yet another example when the work is down well it will sell itself even if the packaging and marketing aren’t that aggressive.
