Anyone remotely familiar with Tamil movies would know upcoming movies of actor Vijay. After his last outing ‘Beast’ directed by Nelson, ‘Varisu‘ directed by Vamshi Paidipally of Maharshi and Oopiri fame is his immediate next film. The makers dropped first look posters of the film that’s supposedly eyeing a 2023 Pongal release some time ago. But what’s even more a matter of curiosity and absurdity is that ‘varisu ott’ has been trending suddenly on Twitter.
What prompted the key words to trend on the social media app out of context is a tweet from a leading box-office tracker:
You want #Varisu on OTT or theater?
— Manobala Vijayabalan (@ManobalaV) September 18, 2022
One could see a sudden uproar from fans and well-wishers on this highly unlikely news as everyone has been waiting for the actor’s comeback after a highly underwhelming previous outing : ‘Beast’.
Now, in all probabilities this news seems fake because Vijay is a superstar who is celebrated by his fans at the movies. The euphoria of watching Thalapathy’s films at the theatres is unmatched and he would never disappoint his fans in that regard. This doesn’t mean releasing a film at the streaming platforms is a wrong decision, but certain films deserve the big screen celebration and Thalapathy Vijay is one of the last superstars of silver-screen who warrants the star-celebration everytime there’s a release.Even an unarguably terrible film like Beast earned over 100 crores at the box-office. So Varisu is definitely not going to take a safer route no matter how bad the film has turned out. So the discussion is anyway ruled out.
Varisu is written by Vamshi Paidipally alongside Hari and Ahishor Solomon. Produced by Dip Raju and Sirish under Sri Venkateshwara Creations, Vijay co-stars with Rashmika Mandanna for the first time in the film. The film eyes a pongal release. Stay tuned for more updates.
