Malayalam film ‘Vellam’, which released back in January has finally come to India for digital streaming and is now available on two OTT platforms. The movie first released in theaters before allowing itself to be made available online for the overseas audience, on the international Malayalam Video on Demand (VOD) platform, Olyflix. The movie did well in the box office (for a post Covid feature film), while it endured mixed reviews from critics.
‘Vellam: The essential drink‘ or ‘Vellam’ for short, is an epic portrayal of alcoholism in rural India. The film follows Murali (portrayed brilliantly by Jayasurya), a hard-working man with one big problem – over drinking alcohol. What started out as a simple drink becomes an addiction that takes over his life. As he slowly drowns his misery and sorrow by finding the end of a bottle, the man eventually becomes a burden to his family and friends.
What many may not have known is that ‘Vellam’ is a biographical film about an industrial business man in Kerala, Murali Kunnumpurath. The film is an example of how a man can turn his life around with the right amount of determination, and it will act as proper inspiration for addicts who will watch this film.
‘Vellam’ is currently available to stream on Jio Cinema and Sun NXT. The film dropped on both OTT platforms on 12th April 2021. Check out the film’s official trailer down below:
