Vicky Kaushal fans; this news will surely excite you to the core. Earlier in 2021 the director of Kaushal’s 2019 blockbuster URI: The Surgical Strike, National Award winner Aditya Dhar announced via social media that he is working on a new high-concept superhero film The Immortal Ashwatthama with Vicky Kaushal to play the titular character.
The posters shared by both Aditya Dhar and Vicky Kaushal were extremely fascinating where the titular character can be seen holding a weapon equivalent to the Lightsaber in a futuristic dystopian backdrop. All we know is that the titular character is based on Ashwatthama of Mahabharata but the director kept mum concerning the story.
Now, after the announcement, The Immortal Ashwatthama almost vanished from the industry news, due to the 2nd wave of pandemic plundering the country. But now, we are getting some fresh news and according to that, the shooting will begin for the film in September, this year for 5-months scheduled in UAE, Iceland and in India for now and will end by January, 2022 if everything goes well. The makers were initially planning to shoot extensively in various parts of Europe but had to drop the plan due to Covid surge in European countries.
The Immortal Ashwatthama will feature Sara Ali Khan too along with Vicky Kaushal. This will be the second collaboration between Vicky and Dhar after URI. The film will be produced by Ronnie Screwvala. As per the makers, the pre-production of the film is going on for almost 2 years now, and once the shooting ends, the post-production will also take a hell lot of time as Aditya Dhar already announced that they want to achieve ‘never-before-seen’ VFX at par with the international standards with the film. If that’s on point, then they may aim for a 2023 release for the film and that means we may need to wait for another 2 years to witness this VFX extravaganza.
Vicky Kaushal currently occupied with a number of projects though with Sardar Udham Singh biopic, The Great Indian Family with Mr Lele and Sam Bahadur, the biopic of Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw in the pipeline. While Sara Ali Khan is also busy with her upcoming release of Atrangi Re with Dhanush.
Now, as these shooting news of The Immortal Ashwatthama is coming into picture, the VFX and superhero enthusiasts of the country will be waiting for it restlessly because since Hrithik Roshan’s Krrish 3 in 2013, they haven’t really got anything in that genre in last 8 years and this film is right at their court and as the director is famed for extremely cut-throat action sequences from his first film, the expectations will be massive!
