Vijay Deverakonda’s ambitious pan-India film ‘Liger‘ may have vanished at the box office without a trace. But the film and its maker Puri Jagannadh are still in the news – though not for the best of reasons maybe.
Putting that aside, Liger is easily one of the most awaited films on OTT. Most people who avoided a trip to the theatres to watch Liger are waiting for the film to release on streaming. Now, it seems, their wishes are about to come true.
As per reports in the media, Disney Plus Hotstar bought the post-theatrical streaming rights for Liger at a whopping sum. Now it’s time for the streaming giant to encash its investment. The Liger OTT release date is all but locked. Liger will most likely release on OTT on Disney Plus Hotstar this Thursday, which is September 22. The film released in theatres on August 25. If it does release on OTT on September 22, it will have had an exclusive theatrical window of 28 days – in keeping with the new, post-pandemic norm.
As of now, Liger will release on Disney Plus Hotstar only in Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam and Kannada. The Hindi version of the film might hit Disney Plus Hotstar as a Dussehra release, on October 5.
Liger is an underdog story of a talented Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) exponent and his obstacles-ridden journey to ultimate victory. Vijay Deverakonda plays the protagonist, alongside Ananya Panday, Ramya Krishna, and Ronit Roy in pivotal roles. American boxer Mike Tyson plays an extended cameo in the film. Liger is written, directed and produced by Puri Jagannadh. Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions is co-producer on the film.
